Bacon Academy management company earns millions from schools

Two of the schools paid Roger Bacon Academy nearly $2.4 million in management fees and incentives for the 2013-14 school year, according to documents provided to the StarNews on June 20. The third school's $60,000 management fee was waived amid a state investigation into low enrollment.

Baker Mitchell companies benefit directly from Charter Day nonprofit he started

A StarNews analysis of documents provided by the Charter Day School Inc. shows that the nonprofit group owns very little, if any, of the land, buildings, furniture or equipment used by its three schools. Instead, the schools rent most of their material goods from founder Baker Mitchell's two for-profit companies - Roger Bacon Academy and Coastal Habitat Conservancy.
