A sex attacker has been jailed after a two-year-old girl gave evidence in court in a landmark British case. The toddler is the youngest person in British history to give evidence in a criminal court to help convict a sex attacker.

Teachers given less than day's training in safeguarding

Trainee teachers receive less than a day's worth of training to deal with safeguarding issues, such as spotting signs of abuse, an investigation has revealed. A freedom of information request by children's charity the NSPCC, has uncovered that students spend on average less than eight hours on safeguarding training over a year-long course.

Trainee teachers are receiving less than a day's worth of training on how to tackle safeguarding issues , a new investigation reveals. A freedom of information request by the children's charity NSPCC found that students on undergraduate courses received an average of 10.5 hours of safeguarding training - equivalent to a day and a half - over a three-year or four-year course.

Men who groomed teenage girl to be a prostitute jailed for 11 years

Thomas Entwistle, 26, and Martin Cantle, 24, groomed the 17-year-old victim and even picked her up from her foster carers before turning her into a "sex slave." They persuaded the girl to work as a prostitute in the red light area of Coventry but pocketed most of the money she made.

TV star Esther Rantzen rides tram to raise money for Childline

TV presenter Dame Esther Rantzen took a ride on one of Nottingham's tram to raise money for Childline. The 76-year-old founded the charity, which has base in Old Basford, in 1986 after a helpline set up following a BBC TV programme she presented on child abuse was inundated with calls.

NSPCC anger at teaching assistant who performed school trip sex acts on pupil

Children's charity, the NSPCC, today spoke out after married teaching assistant was jailed for performing a string of sex acts on a schoolboy. Jill Meldrum-Jones, 37, assaulted the boy during an international flight and on a school trip after becoming "consumed with lust" and losing her grip on reality, Coventry Crown Court was told.

Matthew preparation 'far from ideal'
