Anna Ridley DiBenedetto

A South Carolina native who wandered North of the Mason Dixon line

United States of America

Born and raised in Greenwood, SC, I left my southern town to attend Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA. I developed a strong passion for writing in college, majoring in English with a minor in Creative Writing. During my junior year, I won W&L's distinguished George A. Mahan Award for a short story that I had written, and I knew that I needed to find a career that would allow me to use my passion for communication and writing.

Hope you enjoy my work. I have included a few blog posts and a book review from my internship with Shenandoah, W&L's Literary Review, a fiction story that won W&L's George A. Mahan Award in 2014, a twitter feed of my time as an HGTV intern that W&L used and two published pieces from my internship with TOWN Magazine.

Romance or Love-Which do you prefer?

In light of red roses, the color pink, and heart-shaped boxes of dark chocolate, it is only fitting that Shenan doah dedicate a blog post to all of the hopeless romantics out there. From Jane Austen's classics to the work of modern authors like Nicholas Sparks, there is no denying that books about love are satisfying and perfect.

Gary Jackson's collection of poetry, Missing You, Metropolis, features unique subject material and authentic language. Just look at the title. Hopefully you recognize Metropolis and connect it to something in your past-think back to red capes and a countless number of action-packed comic strips.

Interview with a Turkey . . . Hunter

"A Turkey Hunter's First Shot": A Look into Allison Glock's Turkey Hunt in Garden & Gun I am standing between rows and rows of palmetto bluff pines. My ears are open to the crackling chirps of crickets, as they stretch out their legs, and I can feel the strap of the Benelli rubbing through my camouflage shirt against my collarbone.

To Helen by Edgar Allan Poe | Shenandoah

Helen, thy beauty is to me Like those Nicéan barks of yore, That gently, o'er a perfumed sea, The weary, way-worn wanderer bore To his own native shore. On desperate seas long wont to roam, Thy hyacinth hair, thy classic face, Thy Naiad airs have brought me home To the glory that was Greece, And the grandeur that was Rome.
